Abstract
This report describes cancers diagnosed among children in the United States and Canada from 1988-1992, with special attention to variations across race, gender, and age. Incidence data from 24 U.S. registries and 11 Canadian registries met the high-quality criteria in effect at the time and were included in the analysis. Incidence data were evaluated for the major sites of childhood cancers. Although rates were higher for white children than black and boys than girls for all sites combined, these patterns were not observed in most of the specific cancer types. Canadian data generally mirrored the data for U.S. white children.
